Para sport. From participation to performance.
Para sport is part of the Roadmap’s capacity-building focus and collaborative sports science and technology research. The identified opportunities include classification, coaching, performance support and research. The Brisbane 2032 Paralympic Games also form part of the wider context for bilateral learning. These priorities do not mean that a particular programme, funding opportunity or exchange is already operating.

What is classification?
In Para sport, classification is a sport-specific process used to determine eligibility and group eligible athletes in ways intended to minimise the impact of impairment on the outcome of competition. The applicable rules and processes depend on the sport and its governing bodies.
Practical starting points.
- Start with access: venues, transport, toilets and communication formats.
- Train coaches in inclusive coaching before recruiting athletes.
- Contact your national Para body or sport federation about classification — clubs do not classify athletes themselves.
- Never collect health or impairment details in open forms; use the governing body’s secure process.
